SiteViz Content Management System

Use the SiteViz accessibility checker when creating or updating web pages in SiteViz. The icon in the tool bar is a black circle with a person in the middle.

SiteViz checks for the same general things that all checkers look for:

  • Color: check the text color does not convey meaning. Use bold/italics or words/symbols instead to convey meaning.

  • Contrast: there should be enough contrast between text and background image/color to distinguish them easily

  • Media, Pictures and Illustrations: all images must have alternative text that is meaningful and not a part of the image

  • Tables: tables should not be used for layout and there should be actual data tables with headers with no merged or split cells

  • Headings: headings should be used to create a hierarchical structure on the page. H1 is the page title so do not use this in the page content and remaining sections are in hierarchical order

  • Order/Movement: ensure the keyboard can navigate the page

  • Use CSS to create formatting that screen readers do not read

Tips:

  • Check how your web page looks online on a mobile phone or use a browser tool emulator to view different screen sizes

    • In Chrome or Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+I to pull up Developer Tools. Press Ctrl+Shift+M to pull up the emulator. Choose from a selection of devices to view the site.

Website Compliance

The current international, legally recognized standard (including ADA Title II in the United States) for web accessibility is: WCAG 2.1 Level AA

AMP is a tool used by the Kansas Department of Administration to scan its websites and provide accessibility feedback. Some suggested fixes will be sent to content managers for remediation, some will be completed by Office of Systems Management website administrators, and if any changes identified are in the headers, footers, or navigation, they are sent to Global Reach (the web development vendor) to fix.
