Todd Fertig to head communication, legislative affairs

Todd Fertig portrait croppedTOPEKA – Kansas Department of Administration (KDOA) Secretary Jim Clark announced on January 9, 2014, the hiring of a new director of public affairs. Todd Fertig becomes the agency’s director of communication and legislative liaison.

Fertig joins the agency from the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC), where he served on the communications team as publications writer. He will assume the communication and legislative duties vacated by Chuck Knapp, who recently became the deputy secretary of operations and public affairs at the Kansas Department of Children and Families.

“We welcome Todd Fertig to our team at the Department of Administration,” said Secretary Clark. “We look forward to continuing our agency’s improvement in the areas of communication and leadership, and Todd will be a key part of that effort.”

A native of Ellinwood, Kansas, Fertig brings experience in traditional and social media from the KDOC and from stints with the Wichita Eagle and Manhattan Mercury. Fertig holds a degree in English and Journalism from Kansas State University.
