Office of Public Affairs

Welcome to the Office of Public Affairs. The office is charged with executing internal and external communications for the Department of Administration, including contact with media, assisting with Kansas Open Records Act requests and coordinating with other agency public information officers. The agency publishes a monthly newsletter, Connected, that is distributed to all Department of Administration employees.

The office also serves as the legislative liaison between the agency and the Kansas Legislature. The office works with legislators, the governor's office and other state agencies on policy matters and provides information to help guide decisions.


Visiting Topeka
If you are planning a trip to Topeka to visit the Kansas Statehouse or other state office buildings, you can download a copy of the map of the area, including a location of state agencies housed in the Capitol Complex. Enjoy your visit.

South Steps Fridays kick off June 12

South Steps FridaysSummer music and activities are returning to the Kansas Statehouse starting June 12 with the start of South Steps Fridays.

Organized by the Department of Administration, the events are designed to jumpstart the weekend with music, information booths and history on the South Steps of the recently renovated Kansas Statehouse. Events will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

State agencies and Topeka-area organizations have been invited to come out and set up booths on the South Steps of the Statehouse. Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch with them to dine in the shade of the Statehouse lawn. Food vendors will also be parked along 10th Street, south of the Statehouse.

KU Jazz Combo I is scheduled to come out to perform. Their performance is sponsored by Reach Out Kansas, Inc. and University of Kansas School of Music.

Organizations participating in June include the Kansas State Library, Audio Reader, Visit Topeka, the Lecompton Historical Society, Friends of the Kaw and the Department of Transportation.
