  • Why this survey was done
    • At the direction of Governor Laura Kelly, the State of Kansas conducted an anonymous survey of executive branch employees to learn more about their needs and challenges.
    • This survey was conducted as part of a broader effort to identify practices and trends that have affected the state work force over the past 8 years.

  • Survey Design

    The survey assessed 52 items in 9 areas:

    • equipment and resources
    • professional development/ career mobility
    • employee engagement and empowerment
    • compensation and benefits
    • communication
    • rewards and recognition
    • work environment (3 subareas)
      • treating one another with respect
      • feeling physically and emotionally safe
      • dealing with poor performance

  • Methodology
    • The survey was conducted during June 2019
    • All employees were given an opportunity to participate.
    • The goal was for 33% of the state’s workforce to respond.
    • The actual response rate was 54%, representing over 8,000 state government employees.
    • The responses were statistically representative of all 14 agencies that participated, including more than 130 work units in these agencies.
