Percent of State Highway System with Three Year Current Video Profile

Knowing the state of our highway system is critical to responding to issues and planning for the future.  The video log provides engineers and technicians vital information without having to visit locations each time.  Images older than 3 years may not give an accurate depiction.

The main factor that led to the declining video log completion is major construction in the scheduled Districts.  For most uses of video log, roads should be presented in completed condition.  We schedule about one-third of the State each year (2 Districts) and avoid data collection on roads with construction zones, or new pavement with temporary striping or incomplete signage.  Because we provide an as-built mileage measure, we collect on complete routes across an entire county.  With recent construction; several major routes could not be collected.  It is our practice to schedule these routes in a later year if convenient within the current schedule.

In some cases, quarterly data has been annualized to provide a better comparison to prior fiscal years.  Generally, measures that use percentages have been annualized.  This prevents distortions in the quarterly data that may occur because of smaller populations sizes.  Measures that show the numbers of incidents, activities or individuals reflect actual numbers for the quarter.  This allows users to see progress from one quarter to the next towards identified goals.
