Percent of Bridges, by Deck Area, on the State Highway System in "Good" Condition

The state's bridges are evaluated and given performance levels of good, fair, or poor. This measure tells how much of our bridge inventory is in good condition, weighted by size of bridge.

In February 2017, federal regulations require each state to submit performance measures data based on the calculated deck area of each bridge rather than the numbered count of bridges. This change in the unit of measure makes the performance measure values and thresholds prior to FY2017 not comparable to the performance measure values in FY2017 and in the future. This number is also affected by the change between 2014 to 2015 where we went from 5 condition states to 4 condition states for the element level inspections. We had no way to migrate previous historical data to the new condition states.

In some cases, quarterly data has been annualized to provide a better comparison to prior fiscal years.  Generally, measures that use percentages have been annualized.  This prevents distortions in the quarterly data that may occur because of smaller populations sizes.  Measures that show the numbers of incidents, activities or individuals reflect actual numbers for the quarter.  This allows users to see progress from one quarter to the next towards identified goals.
