Food Assistance Payment Error Rate

This is the percentage of sampled Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (dollars) incorrectly issued due to an error by the client or the agency. The quarterly figures are preliminary and represent the percentage of total errors based on the total sampled by DCF staff for the quarter. The annual measure represents the error rate based on the federal review of the work performed by DCF staff. Fewer errors ensure the client is receiving the maximum allowed benefit.
In some cases, quarterly data has been annualized to provide a better comparison to prior fiscal years. Generally, measures that use percentages have been annualized. This prevents distortions in the quarterly data that may occur because of smaller populations sizes. Measures that show the numbers of incidents, activities or individuals reflect actual numbers for the quarter. This allows users to see progress from one quarter to the next towards identified goals.
