The Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Storekeeper (Laundry) Specialist, KJCC– Topeka, KS. This position is responsible for the total laundry production and distribution. Assists with inmate clothing on a daily basis. Examines clothing for wear and tear and performs research into claims of missing items before making decision to replace. Routinely examines clothing, blankets, linens, towels and whites for signs of replacement for quality control. Ensures enforcement of applicable security requirements including but not limited to pat searches, key control, tool control, and movement control.
Salary: $26,998.40 - $29,016.00 depending on qualifications. Unclassified (At-Will), Full-Time, Nonexempt, Benefits Eligible.
Directly supervises juvenile offenders. Responsible for the total laundry production and distribution. Supervises the operations of the various departments of the laundry to ensure all linen/clothing is properly processed through the laundry equipment, folded, counted and packed out on a daily basis. Maintains quality control by checking outgoing linen/clothing to assure both quality and quantity have been maintained throughout the operation of the laundry. Trains new juvenile offender workers in proper laundry operating procedures, how to operate laundry equipment efficiently and safely, and cross-trains all workers. Observes juvenile offender workers to see if they are following proper procedures in operating the laundry equipment efficiently and safely. Motivates juvenile offender workers to perform their duties to the best of their ability and to meet the production needs on a daily schedule. Plans and assigns the work of employee/juvenile offender workers in each department of the laundry, seeing that the proper amount of linen/clothing is packed out to be delivered to all units based upon their quotas/requests or the amount of linen/clothing that was sent to the laundry for processing. Oversees the delivery of linen/clothing to ensure the units have the proper amount in their area. Responsible for the processing and shipping of all wearing apparel, seeing that it is being processed through the proper equipment and is folded or bagged to be returned to the units. Ensures that all procedures are being followed so that the laundry can supply the proper amounts of clean and sanitary laundry/linen to the agencies served in order to meet the needs of their consumers and staff. Requires knowledge of laundry procedures, knowledge of all equipment operations and safety practices, and knowledge of state and facility personnel policies. Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work, and communicates in a clear, concise manner, both in person and in written format, with both laundry staff and officials of the agencies served.
Assists in other areas as needed to cover staff shortages. Routinely examines clothing, blankets, linens, towels and whites for signs of replacement for quality control. Ensures enforcement of applicable security requirements including but not limited to pat searches, key control, tool control, and movement control. In the matter of infectious disease control, instructs juvenile offenders in the proper handling of soiled clothing items. Carries out job tasks in an exemplary manner so those juvenile offenders are provided with positive role modeling.
Oversees all production records showing the amount of linen/clothing processed daily, to see that all production records which come into the office are accurate. These records are used to complete weekly, monthly and yearly reports that determine laundry costs for accounting, and the records are used to determine the amount of linen to be delivered back to the units. This requires the ability to develop and maintain an accurate data collection system.
Assists the other storekeepers in their duties. Assumes the duties of the other storekeepers in their absence.
Performs other duties as assigned. Reviewed by Corrections Industries Manager periodically and annually.
Minimum Requirements: Six months of experience in laundry work involvingthe operation of commercial scale laundry equipment. Education or training may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agnecy.
Substitution: One year of experience related to procedures and practices of supervising juvenile offenders confined to a juvenile correctional facility.
Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications:
One or more years successful and verifiable experience supervising or managing commercial laundry operations and/or staff.
Ability to deal effectively with individuals under restraint. Knowledge of procedures and practices of supervising juvenile offenders confined to a juvenile correctional facility. Ability to stand for long periods of time, respond quickly to emergencies, and use force to subdue violent juvenile offenders
