Job Duty Description: Employee is responsible with other maintenance supervisors for operation, safety, and security of the HCF Maintenance Shops; includes but not limited to electrical, mechanical, construction and plumbing trades. Maintains security of shop areas and both Class A & B Tool Cribs. Insures all equipment is maintained in good working order, operated properly and returned to its proper storage after use.
Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Performance Standards: Knowledge of the standard practices in the building trades; plumbing; carpentry; electrical; masonry; painting; welding; sheet metal; refrigeration and air conditioning, and mechanical trades. Knowledge of safety measures and occupational hazards of the trades; knowledge of regulations concerning hiring. Ability to read, interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and specifications. Ability to keep careful and thorough records. Ability to plan, organize, assign and approve or otherwise supervise the work of skilled craft workers. Skill in the use and operation of tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in construction and repair work at the skilled craft level. Skill in evaluating, analyzing and resolving construction and mechanical problems.
Necessary Special Requirements: Some positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another designated position within the same agency; possess a valid driver’s license; and/or have an EPA approved CFC and general refrigerant reclamation certification.

Selection Process: Applicants selected for interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior based interview questions. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval. A second interview may be conducted. Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver’s License.
