This Facility Maintenance Supervisor position is responsible for providing inmate supervision to various portions of construction, maintenance, and repair activities within the Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) Central and East Units. Assists in ensuring that necessary materials are ordered and received with the degree of efficiency necessary to ensure constant continuation of projects and unnecessary delays due to material shortages. Discusses physical plant condition and other matters with proper departmental personnel, providing technical advice and information regarding the direction of specific problems, obtaining cost information and other pertinent facts as needed by supervisor. Assists in preparing mechanical services portion of the institutional budget by providing assessment of personnel and logistic needs and assembling costs and specifications for facility operations and capital improvements. Ensures that security is maintained and compliance to Departmental and facility policy is strictly followed in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Ensures that all tools and equipment are kept within assigned areas and maintained in a satisfactory, operational, and safe condition, including all state vehicles, shop equipment, and related machinery. Reviews preliminary drawings and specifications with supervisor regarding new project costs and feasibility. Develops new procedures or modifies existing programs to maximize productive utilization of time, equipment, and manpower in the construction and maintenance of ECF’s physical plant. Contacts local engineers as directed regarding utilities, roads, streets, and drainage. Ensures that Uniform Building Codes and State Fire Codes are implemented and followed.
Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Skills: Knowledge of the standard practices in the following building and mechanical trades: masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
Performance Standards: Knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials associated with a variety of crafts involved in renovation/remodeling projects. Detailed knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of specific crafts or trades. Detailed knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and code requirements. Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, blueprints, and specifications, and to evaluate, analyze, and resolve construction and mechanical problems. Ability to understand and execute all aspects of remodeling projects. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to keep thorough and complete records. Ability to make estimates of time and materials. Advanced skill in the use and operation of tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in remodeling and new construction and repair work at the highly specialized level.
