Starting Salary/Hourly: $12.35 per hour
The Kansas Department of Corrections is seeking a highly qualified applicant for the position of Administrative Assistant - Temporary, located at Topeka Correctional Facility, Topeka KS.
This position performs diverse administrative support work in the Mailroom, Unit Team & Programs area.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The incumbent, with the exception of legal mail, will open & inspect all incoming inmate correspondence for the contents of contraband. Reviews outgoing mail to ensure it meets the guidelines per KAR for mailing. Confers with the inmate or Unit Team staff to determine the legitimacy of the mail. The incumbent will provide data entry into the WRNA Access database; will also run ad hoc reports as requested by Unit Team, Programs Staff, Classification Administrator, Deputy Warden or Warden & provide monthly reports to the Deputy Warden. Incumbent will review, process & approve updates to the inmate telephone list. Consults with Unit Team as needed to process account withdrawal requests for non-exempt items. Works with inmates needing legal identification & processes the request through applicable agencies. Obtains signatures for receipt of the distribution of completed grievances, property claims & disciplinary hearing reports to inmates & returns documentation to appropriate staff. Prepares the annual calendar for all reentry programs with the Program Director. Tracks all assessments for classes & enters the facility program experience record for peer facilitated classes. Distribute daily call out lists to appropriate staff & coordinates class graduation ceremonies. Works with the Release Planner to obtain & review applicable OMIS reports to maintain accurate release tracking.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Routine work experience in office support/clerical work.
- Valid Driver’s License
