JOB DUTY DESCRIPTION:
This is advanced professional accounting work in the maintenance, review, and control of financial records and fiscal programs. Work involves the responsibility for directing an accounting sub-system or fiscal activity; assisting in the management of an extensive accounting or fiscal management program; or performing specialized accounting tasks. This position is responsible for promulgation of policies and procedures related to the accounting and canteen operation; supervising the maintenance and accounting of all inmate funds; ensuring that all funds are properly recorded, kept in a safe place, and ultimately deposited in the bank; and answering questions from the inmates, parents, and friends of inmates, relative to use and disbursement of inmate funds. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for making salary and wage projections for all existing, reallocations, and new personnel requested in the budget as well as preparation and finalization of budget forms on salaries and wages.
Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Performance Standards: Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and standards. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision. Ability to detect and reconcile discrepancies in financial records. Ability to evaluate the soundness of financial practices and the compliance with state laws and regulations. Ability to plan and direct a program of accounting and fiscal services and controls. Ability to analyze and interpret financial report information and to take the appropriate corrective actions. Ability to use calculators, personal computers, and application software.
Preferred Requirements (may be used as mandatory screening): Four-year degree with a minimum of 20 credit hours in Accounting or Business related field. Prior experience with SMART software and knowledge of governmental accounting and fiscal administration and governmental budget and procurement practices and procedures.
Salary range ($ 41,870.40- $56,118.40 Annual)

Selection Process: Applicants selected for interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior based interview questions and possibly a performance or written test. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval. A second interview may be conducted. Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another position within the same agency; and possess a valid Driver’s License.
