Location: Topeka Correctional Facility - Topeka, Kansas
Salary: $25,066 annually
Assist skilled maintenance workers in any phase of building, grounds, construction and maintenance; assist with various portions of construction, maintenance and repair within the facility including; replacing/repairing components of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, building structures and connecting walls. Provide assistance to skilled craftsmen performing carpeting/tiling, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration/air conditioning, and other construction projects as assigned and while in progress. Assist skilled craftsmen with equipment /supply needs by obtaining needed supplies/materials. Respond to work orders as assigned. Assist with inspections of the facility’s buildings, grounds, fixtures, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, and power equipment. Ensure the general shop areas are clean and orderly at the end of each workday. Assume responsibility for the accurate and daily upkeep of logs pertaining to control of equipment and supplies. May be assigned to direct inmate work crews.

- If not currently employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) you will be required to pass a drug screen and a TB screening.
- If not currently a General Maintenance and Repair Technician with the KDOC you will be required to complete a physical examination.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience in a building trades or mechanical building trade. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications: Skilled work experience in one building or maintenance trade area and semiskilled in additional building or maintenance trades. Skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, air conditioning and mechanical. Skills in the operation, care and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and other construction or maintenance equipment to include basic farm machinery.
How You Will Be Evaluated: General Maintenance and Repair Technician candidates are evaluated and rated against factors which may include experience, education, training courses, performance reviews, and interview scores.
