A Corrections Officer II (COII) is responsible for assisting with the public safety by exercising safe and effective containment and supervision of offenders, by managing offenders in the community, and by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens. This position is full performance corrections work involving control and supervision of adult male felons in a correctional facility. Duties involve enforcement of rules and regulations; controlling offenders in living, work or recreational areas; ensuring safety and security of staff offenders, and the public; and serving as the officer-in-charge.
COII positions are subject to the promotional score sheet. In order to be awarded points for education and/or training, transcripts and outside training certificates (at least 36 clock hours and relevant to corrections) must be provided by application deadline.
- Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for COI A;
- Have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders;
- Have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP). At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP.

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate:
Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website at www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual’s account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. Applicants are responsible for submitting their certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency. This is in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
Applicants who fail to submit a Tax Clearance Certificate will not be considered. When you request the Certificate, the system will issue you a Transaction ID#. The Transaction ID# is NOT a tax clearance. You will need the Transaction ID# to be able to retrieve the Certificate 24 hours later. Return to the Department of Revenue website, enter the Transaction ID# and your SSN. If approved, you can then e-mail the Tax Clearance Certificate to the Recruiter listed below.
Applications will be evaluated to ensure minimum qualifications are met; preferred skills may be applied. Applicants selected to interview will be evaluated by an interview panel, with recommendations to the Warden based on interview scores. The Warden will consider interview recommendations/scores, work performance, attendance, and disciplinary action when making decisions. Final applicant(s) are subject to an employment background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen, a physical, and a TB test, unless promoting transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency.
