Job Description:

Open to Department of Corrections employees only.

This vacancy will remain open until filled.

This is full performance corrections work enforcing designated laws, rules and regulations in a corrections facility and providing functional supervision to lower level Corrections Officers.

Incumbents in this class are responsible for controlling inmates in living, work or recreational areas on a specific post in a corrections institution and providing functional supervision to lower level Corrections Officers assigned to the post. Incumbents may serve as members of a unit team providing input into the rehabilitation of members within the unit.

Incumbents in this class are certified Corrections Officers and exercise delegated statutory powers

Key Requirements:

• You must meet the minimum requirements for the Corrections Officer I and Corrections Officer II classification (See “Corrections Officer I and II” classifications)

• You must submit your complete application and all supporting documents by the closing date of the announcement (See “How to Apply” section)

• You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation/determination

• If not currently employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) you will be required to pass a drug screen and a TB screening.

• If not currently a Corrections Officer with the KDOC you will be required to complete a physical examination.

Minimum Requirements Required:

Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A which include having a valid drivers license, pass the KDOC/Corrections Officer test with a 70% or above, have a HS diploma/GED, free of felony convictions, free of any felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime.;  have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders; and have successfully completed  the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP).  At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP.

Corrections Officer II candidates are evaluated and rated against factors which may include experience, education, training courses, performance reviews, and interview scores.

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate

  • If requesting credit for prior corrections officer (non-KDOC) training a detailed outline of courses, course content, and credit hours is required for consideration.

What to Expect Next:

Once your complete application package (including all required documents) is received, we will conduct an evaluation of your qualifications and determine your ranking.  Based on your ranking or numerical score, you may be referred to the hiring manager for further consideration and possible interview. Once that review is completed you will be contacted for an interview or notified that you were not selected for an interview.
