  • South Steps Fridays heats up as summer rolls along

    Excitement continues to build for the second season of South Steps Fridays as the events hit the midway point of summer. More than 20 organizations are scheduled to participate starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 24, at the Kansas Statehouse. Live music will be provided by the Jazz Combo from the University of Kansas’ School of Music.

  • Gov. Brownback declares all Kansas counties drought free

    For the first time since April, 2011 all Kansas counties are declared to be drought free. Following long awaited rains, counties saw improvement in conditions which led Gov. Sam Brownback on Friday to update the Drought Declaration for Kansas counties with Executive Order 16-02.

  • Online auction contains once-in-a-lifetime chance to own part of history

    Hundreds if not thousands of items that once were used in the Kansas Statehouse are being auctioned off to the public in early May. The items have been in storage for the past decade for safekeeping. Some select pieces were retained for historical purposes by the Kansas State Historical Society. Remaining pieces are now being made available for purchase through the online bidding process.

  • Tradition continues: Cards delivered to VA, Capitol Police to honor service

    For the second year in a row, employees of the Department of Administration organized a special project to honor Kansas military veterans and members of the Kansas Highway Patrol’s Capitol Police by presenting them with handmade cards of appreciation.
